VWI’s dedicated CAD services team performs site visits at each of the contracted US Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) facilities. This includes the primary Medical Treatment Facility (Medical Center, Hospital, Ambulatory Surgical Center, Clinic) and outlying support facilities (Troop Medical Clinics, Dental Clinics, Medical Warehouses, Veterinary Facilities and Medical Research Laboratories).

CAD services are an ongoing process that involves creating or updating existing architectural functional floor plan AutoCAD files of buildings in the inventory. Recent contract requirements are for 5 million gross square feet of building area each year at sites in the United States and worldwide.

A challenge at every site is to perform our CAD services with minimal or no disruption to the delivery of health care. This is done through close coordination with the Facility Manager, respect for staff and patient privacy, and scheduling work in some areas in the evenings or on weekends.

The most common required CAD drawings include layers such as: fire protection and architectural plans including windows, doors, and casework with additional mechanical, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, and information systems layers provided as needed. The AutoCAD drawings we work in are finally converted to the Government Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) Drawbase CAD application and loaded into DMLSS.

One of the primary outcomes of the VWI CAD services is to provide accurate architectural drawings of the facilities that are required by The Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Facilities. Medical facilities can change often, so this support saves money and time in the design process for renovations by providing an accurate starting point. Our services also provide Facility Management, Logistics, Resource Management and Commanders with the tools for critical space utilization decisions, justification for funding appropriation, maintenance/housekeeping management, supply and operation.
